The Vermont Marble Company Strike of 1966
This issue discusses the “Vermont Marble Company Strike of 1966”, written by Mary Fregosi ,a writer of numerous previous articles, including one of an earlier Marble Company Strike in 1935(Vol.32, No.3).
This current article describes the 1966 strike that lasted 56 days, when European competition was outbidding domestic companies. The conflict arose specifically over a new three year contract with increased pay, and a union shop.
The progress of the strike is related in depth, with numerous footnotes of contemporary news stories by the Rutland Herald. An exceptional account ending with the ultimate demise of a once dominant Proctor Industry.
